Saturday, 20 February 2021 _The prosecutor's Office against Hate Crimes in Barcelona says it sees sufficient evidence to investigate Spain’s far-right for allegedly inciting hatred against Muslims, following a complaint by several Muslim communities in Catalonia.

Barcelona prosecutor investigates far-right for hate speech against MuslimsAt the core of the controversy is a video published online by the nativist, ultranationalist Party Vox during the recent election campaign in Catalonia.

Vox's Twitter account was temporarily suspended at the end of January for breaching its hate speech regulations with false accusations and unfounded claims against Muslims in Catalonia.

Vox won eleven seats in Catalonia's regional parliament. Their aggressive campaign against Muslims has raised awareness among community leaders to reexamine their alliances.

Although Catalonia is home to nearly half a million Muslims and has elected its first female member of Parliament in 2017, it does not have a central cultural center or great mosque to this day.

Unlike in previous suits against the far-right, representatives of the Muslim community in Catalonia say they believe they have a solid case against Vox. They trust the courts will do them justice this time around.
